How to open a .pub file on a Mac
Microsoft never released Publisher for macOS, and Pages and Preview cannot open .pub files. You need a converter.
In Safari or Chrome, free and private
- Open PubRescue.
- Drag the .pub file from Finder onto the page.
- Click Download PDF — Preview opens it, and you can print it or open it in Pages or Word.
Nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs on your Mac.
Other options
- LibreOffice (free) opens most .pub files in Draw and exports PDF; it is a large download.
- Paid Mac apps on the App Store convert .pub files for about $30 to $40; check recent reviews and update dates before buying.
- Online converters upload your file to their servers.
Editing the result
Open the PDF in Word for Mac or import it into Canva to edit the text; expect some layout adjustments.
Convert a .pub file now — free for one file at a time, your file never leaves your device. Open the converter
